Unlike some other Southern cities, Atlanta doesn´t have much of the typical “Old South” feel. This modern city, the capital of Georgia, is a bustling metropolis with a downtown full of sky-scrapers, abundant cultural offerings and fine dining and shopping. Atlanta traffic is notoriously bad, but an extensive rail and bus system provides hassle-free public transportation in the downtown area.

Atlanta´s attractions range from aquatic (the Georgia Aquarium is the largest indoor aquarium in the world) to whimsical (the World of Coca-Cola is a whole complex dedicated to the famous bubbly beverage). Atlanta played an important role in the American Civil War and in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960´s.The Civil War Museum and Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site and Information Center provide visitors with a rich experience of that history. The Atlanta History Museum, Botanical Gardens and Zoo are also great stops for family fun.

Underground Atlanta, a shopping and entertainment center underneath downtown, boasts 8 nightclubs, several restaurants and one-of-kind shops. The eclectic Atlanta dining scene offers everything from southern soul food to ethnic fusion at every price point. Have a romantic night out a trendy wine bar or go casual with pints at a local brew-pub.
