Cincinnati is the seat of Hamilton County in the US state of Ohio. In 2007, the population within the city limits was estimated to be at 332,458 people; greater Cincinnati's population exceeds 2.1 million. The city has been nicknamed 'The Queen City' and has an official motto stating "Juncta Juvant", which is translated as Strength in Unity. It was settled in the late 18th century and was incorporated as a village in 1802 and as a city in 1819. The city is considered to have been the first major boomtown in America as rapid expansion was experienced during the early 19th century.

Aside from being one of the earliest rapid developers, the city was also the first major inland city in the US. This led to the city being considered as the first purely American city devoid of heavy European settlement. By the end of the 19th century, however, growth in Cincinnati had slowed down and was surpassed in population by other inland cities.

The city is home to several professional sports teams including the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals. It also hosts the Cincinnati Masters as well as the Thanksgiving Day Race. The University of Cincinnati traces its roots back to the Medical College of Ohio that was founded in the early 19th century.

Known for its large collection of German architecture, Cincinnati is one of the largest historic districts listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The city is also home to several annual festivals including the Cincinnati Flower Show. Octoberfest is also celebrated in the city owning to its German heritage. The Octoberfest celebration in the city is one of the largest in the United States.
