Oklahoma is the largest city and capital of the state of Oklahoma. The downtown area, where most of the tourist attractions are concentrated, can be accessed by the limited public transportation system, but it´s much easier to get around by car. A modern city that is often called the “gateway to the West”, Oklahoma City combines a rich history with contemporary attractions and a flourishing theatre scene.

The Oklahoma City Museum of Art contains the largest collection of Chihuly glass in the world while, on the other end of the spectrum, the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum showcases western art and pays tribute to great western performers. The Frontier City Amusement Park re-creates the “wild west” with theme rides and shows. Local cuisine is heavy on the steak, taking advantage of the nearby cattle ranching business. But it´s not all meat and potatoes – like any major city, in Oklahoma City you can find pretty much any cuisine, at any price.

In 1995, a bomb destroyed the Okalahoma Federal Building, killing or injuring hundreds of people. The Oklahoma City National Memorial Symbol and Memorial Museum honor “the victims, survivors, rescuers, and all who were changed forever” by the attack.
