Internet Access via TV in Hotel Rooms

Using the internet has now been merged into our daily lives. Even if we travel around the globe, we will need to access the internet at some point in time. Of course, hotels offer reliable internet access to its guests – usually at a high price. But you may carry a palm or a laptop computer with you to access the net. At times you may need to log on in public internet stations or you could make use of the technology that allows internet access via the television.

How it Works

Hotels now offer internet access via the television screen. They will just provide you with a wireless keyboard and mouse then you can make use of your TV screen as the monitor. In that way you may be able to access your e-mails and perform operations on the internet.

This technology makes use of a device that converts the digital signal of computers to the analog signal of the TV. Although the signal conversion may affect the speed of the internet connection, some hotels offer very high-speed internet access that you will definitely be satisfied with.

The Question of Necessity

Laptops and palmtops are always an additional weight when traveling. The advantage of being mobile makes it more preferred than stationary computers to access the internet. A lot of trips, however, may be not work-related, just a way to relax and escape from work – thus, accessing the internet could only be an optional activity. In this case, you may opt not to bring a laptop computer and just make use of the internet through TV technology offered by the hotel.

Aside from an added weight, laptops are often the object of theft and burglary. Thus, there is a need protect it most of the time. In trips where these laptops are of little use, you leave them prone to theft in the hotel room. Of course, you can always rent an electronic safe but that would be an added expense. So why not leave your laptop and use the TV for e-mail and internet services?

Another option is if you are not traveling alone, your companion may want to access the internet while you use the laptop.

Cost and Charges

The cost of internet in television may be more or less the same with the internet rate of the hotel. Internet rates and availability vary from a hotel to another so it is important to inquire about availability when booking.
