Safes in Hotel Rooms
Posted September 6, 2009 by Mary Haven
Safes in Hotel Rooms

The greatest issue of travel is the safety of valuable personal belongings such as passports, jewelry, camcorders, laptops and cash. Some things however, are very valuable that the hotel room key is not enough to make it safe. At this case, the hotel gives you an option to choose a room that has a safe. A safe is a secure lockable box used for securing valuable things from damage and theft.

Safe Features

Safes for modern hotels are now electronic. Although some traditional safes still exist, modern electronic safes provide better security. Safes are known to be resistant to fire, burglary, water and dust. They are usually attached to hotel room walls and are sized quite well enough to fit laptops or similar electronic devices.

The lock of the hotel room safe is accessible by a personal identification number. Number codes are usually three to five digits and are can be overridden by certain master codes in case of emergencies.

Importance of Hotel Safes

A hotel safe is basically a well-protected storage of valuable things and belongings. Since you cannot and should not carry all valuable things all the time, you will need some assurance of safety when you leave them on the hotel room. A room with a safe can guarantee peace of mind for the guest. Safety of belongings can be deducted from the things you need to worry on your trip.

Most hotel rooms nowadays already have safes installed. While they are very valuable additions, they can add quite a sum in the room cost. Some hotels charge quite a lot for the use of these electronic safes.

If a guest checks in, the hotel management is partially responsible of the guest´s personal belongings. If anything is lost, they can be liable causing a possibility of hundreds of dollars on insurance, reimbursements and other legal fees. To save the possibility of property losses, the hotel management may opt to tighten security measures by adding security staff. Some hotels would opt for installing electronic safes in hotel rooms for added security.

When to Opt for a Room with a Safe?

Being an additional security, hotel room safes may also be an additional expense. While it is a must when you carry lots of valuable personal gadgets or cash, you may opt not to have it on short trips or in some cases when you can hand-carry your few valuable personal things.

At certain times, we may opt for the cheapest deal we get for a hotel room. However, there is always a possibility that we may be losing more due to a simple security measure we try to ignore.
